All students are expected to change into gym clothes, which means indoor runners and shorts/sweats, except for Kindergarten students.
Classes are invited into the gym by Mr. Hunter.
Students change and begin working on the "Entry Activity" provided by Mr. Hunter with the equipment provided for 3-5 minutes. The activity and equipment is changed daily/weekly.
Students will then meet at the middle circle for attendance, an explanation of the daily lesson, discussion and sharing of the workout and skills for the class.
Each class begins with a warm-up/workout using a variety of cardiovascular exercises, muscular strength exercises and muscular endurance exercises.
Next the class works on specific skills according to their age and grade.
The class will usually play a Low Organized Game or Game associated with the skills the students are currently working on.
In addition, music is a big part of the gym program and is incorporated into every class lesson.
What are the Movement Skills?
All students work on the "Basic Movement Skills" according to the Physical Education Guidelines.
The Manipulation skills are: Catching, Overhand Throwing, Underhand Throwing, Rolling, Striking, Kicking and Bouncing.
The Transport or Locomotor Skills are: Hopping, Skipping, Running, Galloping and Jumping.
The Balance Skills are: Dynamic Balance and Static Balance.
What are the attitude/behaviour skills?
All students are encouraged to follow the safety rules and routines for activity participation in class.
All students are encouraged to display behaviours that show social responsibility, respect for others, fair play and sportsmanship in class.
All students are expected and encouraged to follow Centennial School Rules in the gym.
Students will demonstrate competency in selected movement skills, and knowledge of movement development and physical activities with respect to different types of learning experience, environments, and cultures.
